Brookline Man Receives Health Champion Award at Whittier’s Men’s Health Summit

On Saturday, June 29, 2013 Whittier Street Health Center hosted its 14th Annual Men’s Health Summit Educating, Engaging and Empowering Men for the Future. During the Summit, five health champions were honored with Whittier’s Health Champions Award:

  • Frank Doyle, Executive Director of the Boston HealthNet
  • Jay Gonzalez, Senior Vice President and Chief Development Officer of CeltiCare Insurance
  • Matthew Shadrick, Executive Vice President of Eastern Benefits Group
  • Dr. Cyril Ubiem. Coordinator of the Structured Outpatient Addiction Program (SOAP), Whittier Street Health Center
  • Andrew Davis, President and CEO of Carney Hospital 

Whittier Street Health Center honored Brookline resident, Jay Gonzalez, Senior Vice President and Chief Development Officer of CeltiCare Insurance, with the Health Champion Award in recognition of serving as a role model of healthy living in his community.

The 14th Annual Men’s Health Summit Educating, Engaging and Empowering Men for the Future provided men, and their families, with a general understanding of the importance of getting screened for diseases for which they may be at risk.  Fitness celebrity and choreographer, Billy Blanks Jr., presented the keynote address.

With more than 300 attendees, the summit featured a health fair, free health screenings (including high blood pressure, glaucoma, and prostate cancer), live entertainment, a youth workshop, and a formal program that included an awards ceremony honoring Gonzalez and other local health champions: Matthew Shadrick, Executive Vice President of Eastern Benefits Group Frank Doyle, Executive Director of Boston HealthNet; Andrew Davis, President and CEO of Carney Hospital, and Dr. Cyril Ubiem, Coordinator of the Structured Outpatient Addiction Program (SOAP), Whittier Street Health Center.
