My Birthday Boy

Recently, my six-year-old son Zach and I renewed our “wedding vows.”  As before, I promised to take care of him, make him do his homework, teach him to tie his shoes, and love him. Once again he stated his vows, but with two lovely additions. He promised to keep defending me from dragons, but in a sentimental twist also vowed to always be kind, and to love me forever.

I think those sentiments should be a staple of any wedding ceremony.

Our words were short and sweet, but I know in my heart there are more promises to be made, vows to keep. He’s just reached another milestone, his seventh birthday, and it seems important to take stock of our lives, his growth, his incredible progress.
