Waterworks Wednesday: Pioneering Iron Technology and the Brookline Gatehouse

Boston's first public water supply, the 1848 Cochituate Aqueduct, terminated at the monumental granite and iron Brookline Reservoir gatehouse on Route 9. Like the fountains at the end of Roman aqueducts, the gatehouse was the project's facade and was open to the public. Architecture historian Dennis De Witt will discuss the expanding use of iron in architecture, as exemplified by the Brookline gatehouse. Cost is $5. Please RSVP to info@waterworksmuseum.org.
