Brookline, MA, 25 Oct. 2013 – The  screening of “The Loving Story” will be held on Friday, November 1st at 6:00pm in the MLK room of Brookline High School. Join us for some free pizza while watching the documentary, as this event is free of charge and open to the public. This weeks Race Reels will feature special guests Sidni Frederick, Allyson Livingstone, and Alexia Thomas

“The Loving Story” is a riveting documentary that profiles Mildred and Richard Loving, who were arrested hours after their 1958 wedding for breaking
Virginia's laws against interracial marriage. In 1967, their case was heard before the Supreme Court and changed the nation.

More about Race Reels: RACE REELS is a program created by
Abby Erdmann, recipient of the 2011 Olmstead Prize for Excellence in Secondary School Teaching awarded by Williams College. She worked with Krissie Jankowski, a teacher of television and filmmaking, Lynne Cohen, librarian and teacher of digital video and film and fiction, and Malcolm Cawthorne, a BHS history teacher, to design a program that would spark discussion and dialogue about race. Race Reels meets several times a year in the evening, often with a guest speaker. The goal of Race Reels is to provide a common experience and a jumping off point for conversations around race that are difficult to start and to develop an audience that is comfortable talking about race issues.
