The Anne Hutchinson story at Boylston Place

EPOCH
Independent and Assisted Living at
Boylston Place will welcome back Stonehill College professor Gary Hylander for the
presentation, "A Very Dangerous Woman." In
honor of Women’s History Month, Hylander will discuss the story of Anne
Hutchinson. In 1634, Anne moved from England to Boston with her husband and
eleven children. Initially, the Puritan community embraced Anne, a deeply
religious and skilled midwife. However, things went awry when Ann began
questioning the authority of the minister’s sermons and held her own religious
meetings. Boston clergymen and Governor John Winthrop condemned her as a “very
Dangerous Woman” and an “instrument of the devil.” Hylander is a popular
speaker and frequently gives history lectures at local venues. This event is
free and open to the public but space is limited. Please RSVP by calling 617-244-6400.
