The Korean Church of Boston (KCB) will invite its neighbors in the Brookline and surrounding area to a special night of Korean culture from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. on Saturday October 12, 2013.
It will be the sixth edition of the “Korean Cultural Festival” hosted by the church and co-sponsored by the Korean American Cultural Foundation to help foster cross-cultural understanding. The event will feature performances of Korean traditional culture including art, music, dance, and traditional food. Collaborative performances of new music between Korean and other international musicians will be debuted as well.
This year’s festival will be held as part of the church’s 60th anniversary celebration. As the oldest Korean church in New England and one of the oldest Korean Churches in the country, the KCB has strives to play an important role in the cultural and educational environment of the Brookline community.

Senior pastor Rev. Young Ghil Lee said, “This year promises to be an outstanding event as all our performers are truly gifted individuals headlined by Ms. TaeRa Kim on Kayaguem. It will be an opportunity for us not only to showcase the richness of Korean cultures, but also to promote cross-cultural awareness with our collaborative pieces. Our mission is to welcome and open our arms to our neighbors and this is a great way to give back to the community.”
The Korean Church of Boston is a member of the Presbyterian Church (USA) and was founded in 1953 and has met in the current building in Brookline since 1967. The congregation is made up of a wide mix of students, and professionals, some of whom are connected with the local universities. The church has approximately 500 members including children and young adults. Services are held twice every Sunday in the Korean language.

Located near the Brookline Village T-Stop on Harvard Street in front of the Town Hall, it serves as the venue for the Korea Church of Boston’s functions as well as for the Bethany Christian Fellowship, First Presbyterian Church of Brookline, and Calvary Brazilian Baptist Church. With the construction of the ECC (Educational and Community Center) completed in 2011, the church has expanded its ability to host artistic and musical performances, educational seminars, and exhibitions of art. Additionally, various community educational and self-help programs meet in the church building.
Admission to the event is free of charge. The program begins at 6:00 with casual tastings of Korean cuisine and activities for children. The musical performances begin at 7:00.
