Hayley Reardon Unveils New Trio at Passim Residency starting September 7th

Hayley Reardon Unveils New Trio at Passim Series
Sets will preview music from new EP

Hayley Reardon kicks off a four-month residency at Club Passim with a new trio and new music from her forthcoming as-of-yet-untitled EP. She’ll be playing a series of Saturday afternoon concerts September 7, October 12, and November 16, capped by an evening show on January 15. Building off of the release of her debut album Where the Artists Go in 2012, Reardon is stretching as a musician and songwriter. The Hayley Reardon Trio is an extension of that. She knew she wanted to explore a fuller live sound after recording the first album with a band. With some help from her producer Lorne Entress (Mark Erelli, Lori McKenna), she found Eden Rayz (cello) and Grant Smith (percussion).  “I like to describe the trio sound as ‘my songs in new clothes,’” she says. “It brings a whole new feeling to the music that fits perfectly with where my writing is at right now. I was on a hunt for a sound that was bigger than just me and my guitar, but smaller than a full band, and I definitely feel like we’ve found it.” Likewise, the new material from the seven-song EP breaks new ground for the 16-year-old songwriting phenom. Reardon’s writing is rooted in self-discovery and evolution, and each new project sounds to her like it’s coming from a different person, freezing a particular moment in her personal history.  “To me they seem quirkier and more personal,” she says. “Each song on it tells a very specific story and captures its own little moment. I think I’d call these songs a bit braver than the rest.” Reardon is also looking forward to playing Club Passim, a venerable folk institution. She first played there at 13, opening for songwriter/storyteller Don White, and the venue has played an important part in developing her musical tastes. “Passim is pretty much the place where I fell in love with folk music and with the community that surrounds it,” she says.” Without it I might not have uncovered the whole New England music scene that has come to feel like home. It has connected me with so many people who have been instrumental to my career.” Reardon will also be opening the show for Mark Erelli September 21 at 8 p.m.
