Unbound Visual Arts, Inc., is very pleased to announce the opening of Abigail Lee Goldberger: Fairytales & Enchantment, curated by Lee Collilouri,at Athan’s Café Art Gallery in Brookline. A public reception with the artist is Sunday July 27th from 7:00 - 9:00 pm. Abigail Lee Goldberger is inspired by myths, nature, memories, folk art, children’s books, longing, science, and religion. Themes and stories begin to unravel as she layers multiple colors of oil paint onto the canvas. The balance of color and contrast contribute to the captivating mood, which is dreamlike and mysterious. Although the expressions in the characters are calm and the images are static, there is a sense of energy and movement in the whimsical and brave world that Abigail generates.

She stops the reality of the domain we live in and produces an escape, a fairytale utopia where a new universe is created on the canvas. Each surreal character is portrayed as an animal or human, and the new environment begins to tell a colorful story. Whether there is an innocent glowing baby floating in a misty sky and surrounded by purple flowers, or a majestic lion sitting on polka dotted grass with twinkling stars above him, the images become fascinating. It is important for viewers to carefully ponder the paintings, and for a moment become liberated in  Abigail’s fantasy realm.

Abigail Lee Goldberger, a member of Unbound of Visual Arts and a resident of Allston,  was born in Boston Massachusetts.  She has lived in various places across the United States and Australia. She graduated from University of Massachusetts Boston in 2012 with a BA in Latin American Studies and Iberian Studies while minoring in Environmental Science. Beyond her degree, Abigail has taken formal classes in animation, pottery, metalsmithing, printmaking, and drawing.  She has been immersed in art her entire life, and spent her childhood in her mother’s studio who was a stone sculptor. Being free and benefiting from making mistakes then seeing where they took her is why she chose to be primarily self-taught in painting. Abigail’s work is inspired by folk art, surrealism, and children’s books. She has shown in many exhibitions and events including; the Boston Convention & Exposition Center as part of the  MCCA’s Neighborhood Arts Program, Joy Street Open Studios in Somerville MA, and the Boston Biennial at The Gallery at Spencer Lofts, Chelsea, MA.

Lee Collilouri, of Allston Massachusetts, has always had a strong passion for the creative world of art. As a recent graduate from Lesley University College of Art and Design she received a Bachelors degree in Fine Art with a focus in painting. Her current work consists of vibrant and abstract large-scale oil paintings that emphasize fluid line shapes and forms.  She has been included in exhibitions throughout college, the most recently was a BFA thesis show “Chromatic Semblance” at the Vandernoot Gallery in Cambridge Massachusetts.  Beyond painting, art history is a special interest for Lee and she has studied it closely throughout her college program. She has experience assisting artists as well and planning, designing and installing artwork in commercial gallery settings. She remains fascinated by the purpose, importance and art of curating.

Unbound Visual Artsis a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable corporation based in Allston-Brighton and serving the Boston area.  It was incorporated in late 2012 to enliven the creative economy in contemporary fine art for artists and art supporters through curated exhibitions, education and sharing.
