Big Screen Classics: REBECCA

Alfred Hitchcock's great gothic tale of a remarried widower, Maxim de Winter, who is haunted by the ghost of his dead first wife, Rebecca. Based on the novel by Daphne du Maurier and starring Laurence Olivier as de Winter and Joan Fontaine as The Second Mrs. de Winter.

After the death of his first wife, Maximilian de Winter escapes England to spend time in Monte Carlo where he meets, quickly falls in love with, and marries a younger woman. Upon bringing her back to Manderley, his English estate, all of his servants accept her as the head of the house, all - that is - except for the housekeeper Mrs. Danvers (Judith Anderson), who treats the new Mrs. de Winter horrendously. What follows, in total Hitchcockian fashion, is an unparalleled power struggle ending in death and dishonor - but whose?

The Coolidge kicks off a new season of Big Screen Classics with this Hitchcock masterpiece for a special Valentine's Day screening that would have the Master of Suspense himself chuckling.
