Winter Weather Advisory Issued for Brookline

Heaviest snowfall likely to occur Saturday morning into the afternoon.

It's becoming more apparent shovels will be needed Saturday. The bigger question is will snow blowers be needed, too?

The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory Friday night for eastern Massachusetts, including Brookline, which will go into effect Saturday at 4 a.m. and last until 10 p.m.

An ocean storm is expected to develop south of New England on Saturday and intensify as it passes well southeast of Nantucket.

Residents can expect anywhere from 2 to 5 inches of snow. The heaviest snow will fall late Saturday morning into the afternoon. The snow should taper off to flurries later in the day.

Motorists should take precaution, as any snow-covered roadways will become slippery, especially secondary roads and on and off ramps.

Wind will blow from the north from 5 to 15 mph, and may gust to 30 mph.

Temperatures will be near 30 degrees, and visibility will deteriorate from 1/4 mile to 1/2 mile at times.

A winter weather advisory is issued when snow and/or ice is forecast. Although accumulations are expected to be light, any snow or ice would make driving and walking difficult on untreated surfaces.
