Police Charge Man in Cushing Road Break-In

The following information was supplied by the Brookline Police Department. Any charges listed do not imply a conviction.

November 28

2:25 p.m.: An officer was conducting a follow up investigation from an instance that took place on November 24.

On November 24 at 4:37 p.m., police received a call about two suspicious men who were had been on the caller’s property on Cushing Road. The two males fled in a dark station wagon on Cushing Road, heading towards Milton Road. The caller provided a description of the two males, but the Patrol could not locate the car or the males.

The caller told police that he had been upstairs when the doorbell rang. His daughter didn’t answerer the door, but looked outside and saw two black males, one in a blue hoodie, one in a black hoodie, walking away from the front door towards the station wagon. The caller stepped out on to his porch and asked what they were doing in his driveway. According to the report, the two men seemed startled and headed to their car. They then took off in a hurry toward Milton Street. The caller pointed out two pieces of paper, which were left behind on the side of the street that the station wagon was parked on. Police took these documents as evidence.

At 10:41 p.m. on November 24, residents on Beverly Road called the police to report that their front door was damaged. Officers determined that their house had been broken into. Police photographed several rooms that were strewn about. The residents had been away for Thanksgiving and came home to the break-in.

On November 26, Brookline Detective shared this information with the Boston Regional Intelligence Center. An analyst found similarities with the instance on Cushing Street and an instance on Laval Street in Hyde Park. Witnesses described similar attributes of the suspects and a similar car. Police were able to identify the suspects from witness accounts and fingerprints.

Police arrested Derek Moon, 25, a homeless man, and charged him with breaking-in to a residence by force.
