New Plans for Cleveland Circle Cinema Redevelopment

The site, which straddles Brookline and Brighton borders, will see housing as well as a hotel and retail space.

There is a new plan for the Circle Cinema site by the Chestnut Hill Reservoir, but some details are still to come. 

The site currently houses the defunct Cleveland Circle Cinema and Applebee's. The latter was purchased by Boston Development Group (BDG), the site's developers, in November. Plans included a hotel to be built on that site, although the plans have changed.

The Globe's YourTown Allston-Brighton reported last week that the new plans involve razing the existing 2.5 acre site and constructing two buildings filled with the hotel, as well as retail and apartment space. The site will be built up in one 16-month construction phase, rather than two.

A BDG spokesman told The Globe that they plan to unveil the new plans at a community meeting in the next few weeks.

The site straddles the Brookline border with Brighton, although the majority of the site is out of town--which means Boston could take. However, , and the town passed a anticipating .
