Man Found Sleeping in Basement, Charged with Trespassing

The following information was supplied by the Brookline Police Department. Charges listed do not imply convictions.

January 12

8:30 a.m.: Officers were called to Trader Joe’s at 1309 Beacon Street for a report of a shoplifter who had just fled the store. Officers were given a description of the woman and were rerouted to Stearns Road. Officers apprehended the suspect, and then spoke with store employees. An employee told officers that they had observed the suspect acting suspiciously in the store.

The suspect grabbed two bottles of vodka and put them in a shopping bag. The suspect then made her way to the exit and was asked to show a receipt.  At this point, she fled the store. Officers found two bottles of vodka and two bottles of Courvoisier, which was totaled at $185.95. Simone Person of 71 Milton Avenue, Dorchester was charged with larceny, shoplifting, $50-$200.

5:19 p.m.: Officers stopped a man riding a bicycle on the sidewalk, which is a violation of Town By-Law. Officers asked the man about a bulge in his coat pocket, which he stated was his “works.” When officers asked if he had any drugs on him, the man said no, but he did have clean needles on him. After searching him, officers found that he had several needles still in their packaging.

Dispatch informed officers that this man had an “In Violation” status as a sex offender, meaning he failed to register. The man was placed under arrest without incident. A further search of the man revealed one whole pill and the remnants of another. Charles Turner, 50, of Boston was charged with possession of a Class E substance, failure to register as a sex offender and was issued a citation for biking on the sidewalk.

 

9:53 p.m.: Police responded to a report of a bicycle theft on Winthrop Street and suspicion that someone had been living in their basement. The victim stated that they had found bedding, food and empty bottles in the basement. Officers went to the basement and found the suspect sleeping on the mattress. Officers arrested Frederick Deminico, 30, of Boston and charged him with breaking and entering with intent to commit a felony and trespassing.
