Boston Radio Host Who Made Obscene Comment About Erin Andrews Apologizes

Kirk Minihane went off on FOX sports reporter Erin Andrews during the "Dennis & Callahan Show" Wednesday.

WEEI radio host Kirk Minihane apologized after calling FOX sports reporter Erin Andrews a "gutless bitch" on air Wednesday.

Minihane unleashed a tirade against Andrews on the "Dennis & Callahan" show in response to her interview with St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright during the All-Star Game. Wainwright, who said he served up easy-to-hit pitches to retiring New York Yankees' star Derek Jeter during the game, was forced to backtrack after a torrent of criticism on social media.

"Don't you love social media?" Andrews said during the interview.

Minihane exploded after her comment was replayed on "Dennis & Callahan."

"What a bitch," he said. "I hate her. What a gutless bitch. Seriously, go away. Drop dead.

"I seriously hate her so much ... social media is the reason she has a big house. Shut up."

After the show, Minihane apologized.

"My choice of words was wrong," he said in a statement. "To all whom I offended—particularly Ms. Andrews—I apologize. There is no place for what was said. It was immature and completely uncalled for. I am often critical of media members and their work and recognize here that I've made the kind of mistake I would call out if it was done by another sportscaster or writer. Again, to all involved, I'm very sorry."

Boston.com reported Minihane will not be disciplined by WEEI.

State Attorney General Martha Coakley, who's running for governor, told the Boston Herald that Minihane's comments were "outrageous."

"In 2014, when we want our mothers, our sisters, and our daughters to be treated with respect, this language was offensive and absolutely unacceptable," Coakley said. "Erin Andrews is a professional who was doing her job, and a woman should be able to do her job without those outrageous comments."

The "Dennis & Callahan Show" is no stranger to controversy. In 2003, hosts John Dennis and Gerry Callahan were suspended after they compared an escaped gorilla to an inner-city student.
