January 5th is National Bird Day. When I think of birds, I think of how I watch them build their nests in the spring. That makes me think of the “nested recipe” concept that flows through our recipes and books at Easy Weekly Meals. Watch for more on our new ensemble recipes, which will be available soon! In the meantime, toss out some stale breadcrumbs or sunflower seeds for our winged friends. It’s cold out there!

January 6th is both Bean Day and Cuddle Up Day. With our arctic weather, you’ll want to cuddle up with the ideas in our National Bean Day post.

Old Rock Day is Tuesday, January 7th. No one really seems to know how it got it’s name or why, but many take it as an opportunity to learn more about rocks and fossils. We made our Baked Eggplant and Arugula Slices to resemble fossils so they can be used as a fun hands-on veggie to make with the kids. Find it and a full-year of healthy menu plans, grocery lists, and recipes in Easy Weekly Meals for Moms on the Go.

Visit us tomorrow for National Toffee Day and get a free sweet surprise!

Whipped Cream Day is January 5th, and Bittersweet Chocolate Day is Friday, January 10th. Combine your celebrations by making yourself this homemade chocolate coffee treat:

Ingredients:

·      1 C of Coffee, brewed

·      1 tsp Hershey’s Special Dark Cocoa Powder

·      Whipped Cream

Procedure:

·      Pour your favorite blend of hot coffee into a cup

·      Shake Dark Cocoa powder on top of your coffee

·      Sweeten it with a swirl of whipped cream on top.

·      Yum!

Or shake off the week’s chill with a hot toddy to celebrate Hot Toddy Day on January 11th.

Relax in the warmth we offer for this crazy holiday week!
