A New Alternative to Yelp

Instead of focusing on ratings & reviews, CityGusto created specific 'Best Of' Lists for neighborhoods throughout Greater Boston that are determined entirely by year-round user voting.

“Oh, so kind of like Yelp?”  We answer that question a lot.  Ever since Al Gore invented his information superhighway, people have been creating websites to rate and review everything from nail salons to plumbers.  Whenever you mention the words Restaurant and Website, people assume it’s something similar to Yelp…or CitySearch…or TripAdvisor.  For the most part, they’ve been right.  CityGusto.com is different.

Come On Eileen...

People love lists –in fact, VH1 survived the last decade thanks in part to nail-biting countdowns like The 100 Greatest One-Hit Wonders.  Not only do lists simplify overwhelming amounts of information; it’s also fun to rank your favorites and view how other people vote.  We’re hoping to channel that excitement and apply it to Restaurants & Bars.

CityGusto has created ‘Best Of’ Lists specifically for each neighborhood and city in Greater Boston and organized them into 3 categories: Food & Dining, Dating & Ambiance and Bars & Nightlife.  Best Burger in Back Bay?  Best Date Spot in Somerville?  Best Spot for Outdoor Drinks in Harvard Square?  Unlike other lists released once a year, our ‘Best Of’ Lists are decided entirely by year-round user voting so the results are constantly updating and always relevant.  In addition, we regularly add new lists such as Best Charcuterie and Best Bloody Mary.

Love All, Trust A Few

Despite a gallant effort by Dennis Duffy and the once thriving pager industry, many people now have a smartphone.  To capitalize on this surprising development, our iPhone app and mobile friendly pages make ‘Best Of’ Lists easily accessible no matter where you are.  CityGusto users can quickly see not only the most recent results, but also the individual votes of their Facebook friends, bloggers and location experts.

Seeing the votes of people you know is obviously useful and fun, but by also highlighting the opinions of bloggers and experts in each location, we hope to reduce the feeling of uncertainty that exists when taking advice from a stranger.  For example, the creator of Boston Burger Blog recently voted for Best Burger in different locations across Greater Boston (see his votes for DowntownBrookline and Harvard Square).  We will also be introducing an Activity Feed in the near future that will display all of your friend’s votes in one spot!

Bored?  There's An App For That

Helping you enjoy your city is our goal so in addition to restaurants, CityGusto also created a simple, yet powerful new platform to discover events happening throughout Greater Boston.  Everything from happy hour deals & discounts, live music and theater performances to special events, tours and fundraisers are all easily accessible from your computer or smartphone.

Whether you’re looking for the best margarita in your neighborhood, the best lobster roll while on the go, or great events wherever you are – you’ll quickly find what you’re looking for at CityGusto.com!
