Sovereign Bank Changing Names

Don't look for Sovereign Bank come Oct. 17.

Sovereign Bank will get a new name, as well as several other changes to the branches across the country, it announced in a press release on Wednesday, July 24.   

The bank, beginning on Oct. 17, will be called Santander Bank, the name taken from its parent company, Santander Holdings USA.

“October 17 will mark a unique occasion for our company," said Carlos Garcia, chief corporate affairs and communications officer at Sovereign Bank and Santander Holdings USA. "Under the Santander name, we will marry the local insights and relationships of a committed, community-focused bank with the breadth and expertise of a major global financial institution." 

Sovereign Bank has eight total locations and ATMs in Brookline.

In addition to its name change, the bank announced several enhancements to be rolled out between now and Oct. 17 as part of a "comprehensive $200 million dollar plus three-year initiative." Initiatives include refurbishing its more than 700 branches, enhancing the ATMs and developing a new streamlined website.
