Frugal Family: Stay and Knit a Spell!

The Fall is all about hitting the books, taking advantage of all of the autumnal activities New England has available and even prepping for the chilly months with some lovely knitted items!

 – 461 Centre Street, Jamaica Plain

 

Deal: , located at 461 Centre Street in Jamaica Plain, is participating in the Greater Boston Yarn Crawl this Friday through Sunday. The theme is “Go Green!” and they’ll be featuring 20% off all their green, organic, and fair trade yarns and select organic fabrics.  There will also be a bundle of fun events, including trunk shows, talks, and workshops over the weekend. Stop by on Friday for wine and cheese with local designer, Ann Weaver, who will be debuting copies of her new book, "Craft Work Knit." The store is also hosting a spinning demonstration with a local spinner/dyer whose work is inspired by comic books. Hulk no longer smashes, HULK KNIT!!!

Bikes Not Bombs – 18 Bartlett Square, Jamaica Plain

Deal: Frugal Family comes across a number of amazing deals on a daily basis, but here’s one that is going down in the tomes of Frugality and Awesomeness. Bikes Not Bombs, located at 18 Bartlett Square in Jamaica Plain, has a great all-girl program called Girls in Action that teaches young girls (ages 12-18) about physical activity, self-esteem, health and even how to fix their own bikes! This great opportunity runs each Thursday from October 17–November 23 and is not only a great frugal find–the cost of each class is based on a sliding scale from $25-$50 –but it’s a fantastic opportunity for young women. All female members of the Frugal Fam should know how to balance a budget AND fix a bike!

Brookline Dog Grooming – 146-148 Harvard Street, Brookline

Deal: Autumn is here. Sure, you’ve got your pumpkin carving, your decorative gourds and your apple picking. But, perhaps more importantly, you have your free Frugal Fam Halloween activities to keep you busy. Brookline Dog Grooming, located at 146-148 Harvard Street in Brookline, has a wonderful fun night planned for you and your furry costumed canine friend on October 22, from 4 p.m. -5 p.m. There will be refreshment s for humans and dogs alike, a raffle and lots of fun pet mixing and mingling. So bring Buster or King or Snookums to this great event--they’re members of the Frugal Fam too!

Deal: So many things can help us through this Frugal Family journey and an education is certainly one of them. It’s an experience that no one can ever take away from you and worth millions upon millions of dollars. If you or any other member of the Fam is looking to earn their GED, check out , located at 7 Palmer Street in Roxbury. The program is free and serves out-of-school youths, age 16 -24. It’s a perfect environment to hone your skills, build your confidence and get ready to take on the world.
