The quickest way to a man's heart is through his stomach, as the old proverb says; Sometimes something good for the stomach comes out of a man's heart as well, like special Bruins-themed pizzas coming hot and fresh from the oven at on Beacon Street. Fans can score a free slice simply by showing up while the game is on.
Said owner, , "I've been making pizzas during their run, starting with Tampa Bay. People come in and watch the game, I bring out the pizzas. We all get a good smile and the camaraderie; we all enjoy a little of the Bruins experience."
For Siber, hockey is a long-time passion. He currently plays on a team, and grew up watching the Bruins play. He says he "got caught up in the moment," and started making pizzas with the Boston team's B-shaped logo on them.
"I started doing it for fun, just trying to be creative and celebrate their accomplishments." Siber said, "I think for many of us, reliving the glory years of the 'Big Bad Bruins', '70 - '72. There are numerous similarities between the teams: like their character, their accomplisments."
In the two years that Siber has been there, Richie's has become a neighborhood fixture even beyond sports. As he spoke, he called out a greeting a pair of customers, dentists from a nearby practice he said.
The restaurant has also hosted a number of local schools, including the for a pizza and pasta day. Siber still has a folder of thank you notes from the kids, a few noted that their favorite parts were trying the food, meeting the staff, and not having to clean up after the meal.
