Get Out: Family Fun Weekend

A selection of things to do this weekend: check out the waterworks, support the arts, or run away for lunch at the circus.

The following is just a sampling of the events going on this weekend. See the Event Calendar for a full listing:

When/where: Saturday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Metropolitan Waterworks Museum
Why: Learn about where your water comes from, then check out the Great Engines hall, and see where the water used to come from. Take a tour, go on a scavenger hunt, show off in Waterworks Jeopardy, or get hands-on with some projects at the site. Bring the whole family, and get a new appreciation for your glass of water. 
How much: Free

When/where: , 2:30 p.m. Saturday
Why: The Boston Harbor Island Alliance is looking for girls with poise, condfidence and a smile, who would enjoy walking down a runway in front of an audience of up to 500. Clothes are provided, just bring your winning smile--or volunteer to help out behind-the-scenes. High school juniors and seniors who would like to volunteer can email Melissa at AGFS@islandalliance.org for more information.

When/whereSeaport Hotel in Boston, 7 p.m. Saturday. 
Why: Head out under the stars, bring your dancing shoes, and learn or show off what you already know. The bridge connecting the hotel to the Seaport World Trade Center is the venue, the stars are the backdrop, and ballroom and Latin DJ’s K&S Music will be spinning tunes. Dancers will be sustained by light snacks and beverages from the Seaport.

When/where: 10 a.m., Sunday morning at 355 Chestnut Hill Ave.
Why: If running is fun and you love the arts scene in Brookline, then this may be the way to show it. Whether you're walking or running around the flat Chestnut Hill Reservoir course, the proceeds are going to help the Brookline Symphony Orchestra. Get the kids involved: strollers are welcome!

When/where:  on S. Huntington Avenue, at 3 p.m. on Sunday
Why: Head in for a circus fun backyard party with a moon bounce, face painting, snacks, and even Boston’s own circus band, Cirkestra with their unusual klezmer tunes. Followed by a backyard barbecue thanks to the MPH kitchen.
