I-93 Southbound Closed Through Boston Overnight Tuesday into Wednesday

Details and detours drivers need to know due road maintenance schedules.

Be prepared for complete lane closures on I-93 Southbound through Boston overnight Tuesday, May 20 into Wednesday, May 21 due to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation’s maintenance schedule.

Overnight Tuesday, all I-93 Southbound traffic will be detoured off the highway at Rte. 38, Mystic Avenue, onto surfaces streets and allowed to re-enter I-93 Southbound at the Herald Street on ramp south of the Mass Pike.Traffic destined for I-90 Westbound will access the I-90 Westbound on-ramp just south of Kneeland Street, according to MassDOT officials. This closure gives maintenance crews access to the Lower Deck, Zakim Bridge and O’Neill Tunnel Southbound.

Maintenance crews and contractors, along with State and Boston Police will begin set-up for the closure on Tuesday evening at 11 p.m.

The full closure begins at midnight on Wednesday and will last until 5 a.m. Wednesday morning. In the event of inclement weather, the closure will be postponed.

Work to be performed includes: roadway sweeping, wall and sign washing.
