Brookline and Somerville Hailo availability expected soon as demand soars in Greater Boston
BOSTON, MASS. (September 12, 2013) – Hailo, the world’s highest-rated app-based taxi service, announced today that it has expanded its network of licensed taxi drivers to include Cambridge. Hailo, which exclusively works with licensed taxi drivers, launched in Boston about a year ago. The expansion into Cambridge means that more taxis than ever will be available to passengers to help get them where they’re going, when they want to go there.
Nearly one-third of drivers in Boston are registered with Hailo and thousands of passengers are signing up for the service each month. Hailo recently launched in New York City and Washington D.C.
“Hailo is the easiest, safest, most accountable way to take a taxi in Greater Boston, and we are thrilled to expand our reach into Cambridge,” said Vanessa Kafka, general manager of Hailo Boston. “A Hailo cab can be hailed from anywhere, but the expansion means that more licensed drivers than ever will be able meet passenger demand. We pride ourselves on working closely with regulators in every city in which we operate and have found a warm reception in Cambridge.”
Brookline and Somerville are the next communities where Hailo will be expanding soon. In celebration of the launch, Hailo will be offering $15 off rides for all new customers with the code “Cambridge.” The code can be used today through Thursday, September 19.
Hailo has three key benefits:
● Hailo from anywhere. Passengers can relax at home or at the restaurant table, hail a cab with a tap of their smartphones and watch it come to pick them up in real time on a map.
● Convenient and safe. No more wandering the streets looking for a taxi - now it comes to you. We only work with licensed taxis so passengers get the best, most consistent service and arrive at their destinations safely. A driver is confirmed with his photo, first name and cab number before they arrive to pick you up. Pay the meter, not an arbitrary amount.
● Automatic, effortless payment. Just get in and out of the cab. Payment information is handled securely so passengers don’t have to worry about having cash or a card on hand and there are no mandatory tips.
Hailo is the evolution of the hail - a free smartphone app which puts people just two taps away from a licensed taxi, and lets cabbies get more passengers when they want them. A Hailo hail is accepted around the world every four seconds from Hailo’s global network of tens of thousands of drivers and hundreds of thousands of passengers. Launched in November 2011, Hailo is available in London, New York, Dublin, Cork, Galway, Limerick, Toronto, Chicago, Boston, Madrid, Barcelona and Washington D.C. - and coming next to Japan. Hailo has carried more than 6 million passengers and grown to annualized sales of more than $100M. Founded by three taxi drivers and three internet entrepreneurs, Hailo has raised over $50M from the best investors anywhere, including Union Square Ventures, Accel Partners, Wellington Partners, Atomico Ventures and Sir Richard Branson.
