Brookline Resident Graduates From The Rivers School

WESTON, MA—Brookline resident Richard A. Oates was one of 90 students to graduate from The Rivers School in Weston on Friday, June 13. A high honor roll student, Richard was an abstract thinker whose strengths in math and science made him a force in the classroom while his musical ability made him stand out in the most competitive environments. A member of the Conservatory Program, Richard earned six Outstanding Musicianship awards and one MVP award from MAJE competitions and two Outstanding Soloist awards from the Berklee Jazz Festival. On Prize Day, he received the David Killam Instrumental Prize and was elected to the Cum Laude Society. He shared his passion for composing music by performing a song he wrote for his senior speech. The son of Michael and Karen Oates, he will attend MIT in the fall.
