National Parks Service Offering New Info for the Kennedy House

If you see a tent on the front lawn of the Devotion School, stop by and say hello to the Park Rangers who are promoting the John Fitzgerald Kennedy National Historic Site.

The National Parks Service is offering guided tours in the childhood home of President Kennedy at 85 Beal Street on the half hour from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Wednesdays through Sundays. There is also an audio tour narrated by Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy from 12 to 1 p.m. and 4 to 5 p.m.

“This is the first day of this information tent,” Supervisory Park Ranger Jim Roberts said. “We are kind of tucked away on Beal Street, so we are set up on the Devotion School Lawn. We get plenty of foot traffic on Harvard Street, so people come by to plan their visits.”

Pedestrians stopped by frequently to take information on the Kennedy home as well as the other National Parks in the area.

“There are a decent amount of people from the Brookline and Boston area interested in these tours,” Ranger David Altman said. “But about half are from abroad.”

The National Parks Service will be hosting a memorial on November 25 for the 50th anniversary of President Kennedy’s assassination.

“We try to be the most accessible site we can,” Roberts said. “There are no gates, fences, or fees. This information tent gives us the ability for us to talk to in depth with people about the Kennedy’s.”
