Brookline Music School’s 2012-2013 Faculty Artist Series presents: Selections from Classical to Modern Composers

Brookline Music School (BMS) presents Selections from Classical to Modern Composers on Sunday, February 10th at 4:00pm in Bakalar Recital Hall for free. This is a program of rarely performed chamber music gems featuring the unusual instrumentation of flute, violin, viola and piano. The unique combination of instruments allowed composers to stretch the boundaries of traditional roles and create new textures. The concert features BMS faculty members Philip Rush, viola,
Michelle Rush, violin,
Lindsay Albert, piano, and Amy Poliakoff, flute. Mrs. Poliakoff will play on all pieces.

The Program includes Beethoven’s Serenade in D Major Opus 25 for flute, violin and viola (1801), Pierre Sancan’s Sonatine for flute and piano (1946), and Maurice Durufle’s Prelude, Recitatif et Variations Opus 3 for flute, viola, and piano (1928). 

Lindsay Albert, Piano. M.M, Collaborative Piano, The Longy School of Music, 2007; B.A. with honors, French and Music, Boston College, 2005. Adjunct Faculty, Staff Pianist/Vocal Coach, Boston College, Chestnut Hill, MA; Private Voice Studio Pianist, Longy School of Music. Former Assistant Director of the New School of Music in Cambridge, MA. Teachers include Iras Roback, Dr. Sandra Hebert, Wayman Chin. Lindsay lives and works in Boston as a performing collaborative pianist, vocal coach, and private instructor. 

Amy Poliakoff, Flute; Suzuki; Suzuki Dept. Coordinator. BA, Marlboro College; MM, Flute Performance, Chicago Musical College of Roosevelt University. Performed with New England Bach Festival, Berkshire Lyric Theatre. Former Principal Flute, Chicago Philharmonia. Winner, Society of American Musicians Young Artists Competition. Performs with Ensemble Bacchanale. Former faculty, Brattleboro Music School, Pittsfield Community Music School, Simon’s Rock of Bard College.

Michelle Rush Viola; Violin; Suzuki. BM, University of Houston; MM and DM, Florida State University. Performs with chamber ensembles and orchestras throughout New England on modern and baroque viola. Her research on injury prevention and the physiology of string playing is a cornerstone of her teaching method, a hallmark of her playing and has been published in the ASTA journal.

Philip Rush Violin; Viola. BA, cum laude, University of California at Riverside; Master of Fine Arts in viola performance, California Institute of the Arts; Doctor of Music in viola performance, Florida State University. String Department Chair at the South Shore Conservatory. Performs with the Gardner Chamber Orchestra, Atlantic Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra of Boston, Intermezzo Opera Boston, Rhode Island Philharmonic, Handel and Haydn Society, and Cantata Singers.

Selections from Classical to Modern Composers is the third concert in the Brookline Music School’s 2012-2013 Faculty Artist Series. The BMS Faculty Artist Series features a colorful spectrum of musical backgrounds to include jazz, folk, classical and ethnic styles. The superb quality of educational offerings at BMS is made possible by the high level of arts education, musicianship and pedagogical experience of the faculty. The faculty at Brookline Music School is comprised of over sixty highly experienced music educators, most of whom also pursue active careers as performers, recording artists or composers, and hold graduate degrees or higher from the world’s most notable conservatories and universities.

Brookline Music School’s 2012-2013 Faculty Artist Series will continue with Sunday concerts at 4:00pm with Lorraine & Bennett Hammond (Traditional American folk music, featuring Appalachian dulcimer, banjos, guitar, mandolin & vocals) on March 10, and Valerie Ross, piano (Romantic to Modern, Brahms, Debussy, Rzewski and Messiaen piano) on May 12. Meet the artist receptions will immediately follow each concert.
