DESCRIPTION:Is there a way that ancient ideas of Shabbat laws can be a re
 source for our practices today? Law constrains us and law provides us wi
 th meaning. Beginning with the American-Jewish legal theorist Robert Cov
 er\, turning to the week's Torah portion&nbsp\;Mishpatim\, and then to&n
 bsp\;a few Shabbat laws\, we will examine this dilemma of law.&nbsp\;\nJ
 ane Kanarek is Assistant Professor of Rabbinics at the Rabbinical School
  of Hebrew College. She grew up down the street from Temple Ohabei Shalo
 m and is a Lawrence School and Brookline High graduate. Rabbi Kanarek re
 ceived her&nbsp\;rabbinic ordination from the Jewish Theological Seminar
 y and her Ph.D. from the University of Chicago. Her&nbsp\;research focus
 es on biblical exegesis in rabbinic literature\, legal theory\, feminist
  readings of Talmud\, and methodologies of teaching Talmud.&nbsp\;She is
  a member of the&nbsp\;Boston University Masters Swim Team and lives in 
 Brookline with her husband and son.\n&nbsp\;\nServices begin at 6:00pm\,
