Get to Know the Warrant Articles: Defining Medical Marijuana Treatment Center

Town Meeting is May 28.

With the Annual Town Meeting coming up on May 28, now is a good time to get familiar with the warrant articles. Article 17 addresses the definition of a medical marijuana treatment center as put forth by the Department of Planning and Community Development. In its’ own language, the article defines the a “MEDICAL MARIJUANA TREATMENT CENTER—Any medical marijuana treatment center, as defined under state law as a Massachusetts not-for-profit entity that acquires, cultivates, possesses, processes (including development of related products such as food, tinctures, aerosols, oils, or ointments), transfers, transports, sells, distributes, dispenses, or administers marijuana, products containing marijuana, related supplies, or educational …

Video: Village Green Renewal Champions Local Craftsmen Collaborative

Phillip's TV moved into Village Green Renewal's shop.

There’s an empty storefront on the corner of Harvard Street and Aspinwall Avenue where Philip’s TV & Stereo used to be. Last October, Brookline Patch reported that Philip’s had merged with Village Green Renewal at 6 Davis Avenue.  Seth Barrett, founder and owner of Village Green Renewal, said that many local craftsmen work within a word-of-mouth network. “I’m not looking to compete with local craftsmen. I grew up here, so did a lot of them,” Barrett said. “It’s pretty rewarding to point somebody towards just the right business and know that the people there will be kind and courteous and respectful and it’s going to be a good experience for them.“ Village Green Renewal will fix anything from iPods to restaurant furniture, lamps, dolls, …

And Brookline is overloaded with BANKS, Drug Stores and Coffee Shopez because the RENTS are so bloody outrageous! Wonderful business model to gather those who can and feature them for those who would rather fix/repair then THROW AWAY! My feeling is that Barrett and MacPherson is a pair that can beat 3 or a kind!   more ›

Outpatient Victims to Receive One Fund Boston Payments

Claims for One Fund Boston payments are being accepted through June 15, and funds will start being distributed on a rolling basis on June 30.

Boston Marathon bombing victims treated as outpatients at Boston-area hospitals are eligible to receive One Fund Boston payments.  Claims are now being accepted through June 15, and money will start being handed out on June 30 on a rolling basis, according to One Fund Boston's website. The final protocal and prioritization for victims was also released through the website. Individual death claims, double amputeees, and those who suffered permanent brain damage are the top priority. Previously, One Fund Boston administrator Kenneth Feinberg had estimated the families of the three victims who died from the bombings, could receive $1 million. "Money is a pretty poor substitute," said Feinberg at one of the Town Hall meetings held to discuss…

Prices: Colonoscopy, MRI, CT Scan, Mammogram

The cost of colonoscopies, MRIs, CT scans and mammograms can shift a lot from place to place.

It costs more than $1,000 extra to get a CT Scan in neighboring Suffolk County than in Norfolk County. That's according to data from New Choice Health, a private company that encourages people to become smarter healthcare consumers. With Boston's premiere hospitals and large health care organizations, the higher price tag on four common procedures is not entirely surprising. But Norfolk County's prices fall below the state average, making a short trip north and west of the city a potential money saver. These big regional differences have been in the news lately: As the Washington Post wrote on Wednesday, "One hospital charges $8,000 - another $38,000." Using the same data as the Post, The New York Times listed out the prices of a series …

Sports Cars for a Stellar Summer

Here are five high-performance vehicles for sale in the area.

Sports cars and the people who drive them have taken a bit of a beating in popular culture these last few years. Movie geeks look at a hood scoop and drawl "I live my life a quarter mile at a time" in their deepest Vin Diesel voice. Cynics hear the growl of a high-end exhaust and draw anatomical conclusions about the owner. But all the ribbing doesn't change one fact: High-performance cars are wicked fun to drive. Big block beast, small block tuner, or high-end euro ride, the power and handling can't be matched by an efficient Prius or sensible minivan. Here are five local cars for sale that will give you the growl, grip and go that (deep down inside) you really want: 2014 Ford Mustang, $26,849: When introduced in the 1960's, the Ford …
