Voter Registration Throughout Brookline

The Brookline League of Women Voters' volunteers have been busy this summer registering voters throughout town.  Even if only a handful of people register at an event, we think it is worthwhile to be there to sign those people up.

Our goal is to increase the number of registered voters and to increase voter turnout.

Democracy is more responsive when everyone participates in the electoral process.  And even though Brookline ranks near the top in voter turnout in state and national elections, we can always do more.  In 2000 and 2004, approximately 75% of those registered voters in Brookline actually voted.  The turnout was higher in 2008 reaching almost 86%.  We hope that turnout in 2012 will top that, and the League is working hard to help make that happen.

As part of its Brookline Votes 2012 Campaign, League volunteers registered voters at six Brookline Housing Authority locations during their annual BBQs.  League volunteers spent hours registering voters at the Farmer’s Market.  This fall we will have voter registration sessions at Newbury and Pine Manor Colleges, Brookline Day at Larz Anderson September 23,Goddard House, and more.

Our volunteers are energized and ready to go.  If you know of a group that would like to host a voter registration session, email the League at lwvbrooklinevotes@gmail.com.

Remember the deadline to register to vote in the November 6 Presidential Election is October 17, 2012.
