On the Road with Elizabeth Childs for Congress: Putting "Camp" back into Campaigning
I got into this race last summer not sure how our a new 4th District would be configured but certain of two things: Washington needs a shrink and having lived and worked in Brookline for over 20 years, I wasn't going to move to run for Congress--I'd do so from Brookline however the new district shaped up.
My goal in running is to bring a new voice to Washington committed to stop the demonizing and finger pointing and work with Republicans, Democrats and Independents to solve our fiscal crisis and get America working again. It's a novel idea...should be common sense. But Washington has lost it's common sense and it's time for someone with a proven track record of bringing people together to solve big problems to give this a try. My message has been welcomed by so many people who are sick to death with the gridlock that I intend to whittle away at.
It's been a terrific year, but the best part is now underway--camping my way through the 4th District with our family's Airstream camper! Well, it's no ordinary camper now as you can see thanks to the terrific artwork and shrink wrapping of Sign Design in Brockton.
This past Saturday morning we packed up the Airstream for an old-fashioned whistle-stop tour with our final destination: the Portuguese Parade and Picnic in Milford. My husband Ralph, a retired Navy and Navy Reservist has done a remarkable job of getting me, the kids and a few campaign workers around the 4th District in the Camper—hauled by our Ford Expedition. He actually drove our family to the Arctic Circle in the camper so getting around the 4th is actually “childs” play!
First stop was at the Dover Café and Deli http://dovercafeanddeli.com/ where my son Raphael ate an entire roasted red pepper and black olive pizza—compliments to chef-owner Charlie—everything was delicious!
We then wound our way through Medfield, enjoying the beautiful gardens and yards getting slowly but surely to our next destination: Budabings 50s diner in Millis. The kids LOVED it and I introduced myself and my message to patrons who were glad to meet me and listen.
In Medway, I got to indulge my feminine side a bit at Fine Feathers—a lovely women’s boutique with amazing accessories. A special find travelliing the district.
Then we got to the Portuguese Parade and Picnic. It was the first time our family has attended and I was so amazed at how the Milford Police masterfully and graciously corralled all the foot and auto traffic, keeping things moving safely and pleasantly. I really enjoyed meeting the “Mayors of Prospect Hill” (some of whom have been great supporters) a group of gentlemen who grew up in the Propsect Hill section of town and make it back “home” from wherever they live to volunteer their time for this festival. They were anything but a homogeneous group, but they set a standard of how folks of different backgrounds can get along and support a great community cause. It’s truly that spirit that you see at this event and the dozens of volunteers from the Portuguese Club who sponsors this and work so hard to pull off a gargantuan and wonderful event.
After meeting folks, shaking hands, sharing stories and indulging in beef stew and linguica sandwiches, it was time to roll the camper in to Circle CB Farm and Campground http://circlecgfarm.com/ in Bellingham—a world class campground—that would be home for tonight. We met folks from Georgia and Virginia that night and they were of the same mind that it’s time to get Washington in tune with the rest of America. Time for politicians to stop bickering and name calling and work together to solve the problems they were sent to Washington by us to solve. They wished me good luck in my effort to be that kind of leader.
Ralph, the kids and I relaxed around the fire looking at the stars and counting our blessings. Then it was time for sleep.
The next morning, we didn’t have much luck fishing in the pond for breakfast, which is why we pack well for our camping expeditions—sausage and eggs ruled and after a time in the pool, playing putt putt golf and petting the horses and burrows, it was time to roll on.
A quick stop at Dunkins and we met more kind and interesting folks who stopped us when they saw the Navy flag on the back of the camper (as if the camper isn’t spectacle enough). The guys—one is a TSA screener--shared some Navy stories and just had to get a picture in front of the camper.

Dr Childs is nothing but a hypocrite. She talks about wanting to stop the bickering but has done nothing but attack her primary opponent from the beginning.
I also find this comment in her blog interesting which she says everywhere she goes.

Hnnnnn interesting. I would like to ask Dr. Childs where she was in 2010 and what changed after 2010 that made her want to run for congress?

If a real congressional candidate who cared about getting jobs for people were to take a similar tour, they would be reporting on how the government is stifling these small business owners & making it difficult to hire people. Elizabeth paints a rosy picture of the district, but things are not good in Mudville, or Medway, Millis, or Milford. One hopes that she learned how Obamacare is hurting them so she'll change her view of it.
I also hope that Elizabeth takes her own advice & stops the bickering & name calling. Her negative attacks on Sean Bielat are only going to hurt the primary winner's chances of defeating Joe Kennedy III in November. And she really needs to get her facts straight before attacking Sean Bielat. Her attack on Sean Bielat's start up company was quickly answered and is & was a non-issue. Her attack that Sean Bielat not be willing to debate her was premature. They have now had one debate and another is scheduled. Post debate polling showed she lost the first debate by a margin of about 6 to 1. And as for her other attack on Sean Bielat's decade old record as a Democrat, talk about the pot calling the kettle black! Childs has barely been a Republican for a year (& may have actually been a Democrat when she filed to run as a Republican) & she up until last summer supported & donated to many Democratic candidates & causes & was nowhere to be seen fighting all the things she now says she opposes. Stop the negativity.
