A TD Garden concert with proceeds benefitting the One Fund has sold out. Boston Strong, An Evening of Support & Celebration sold all of its tickets in five minutes, according to a tweet from the official TD Garden twitter account. "#BostonStrong shows their strength once again - 5/30 concert @tdgarden to benefit #TheOneFund sold out in 5 mins! THANK YOU for support!" Aerosmith will headline the show. Boston, Godsmack, J. Geils Band, Extreme and other legendary Boston rock acts will perform.

Think your artwork is good enough to hang in the U.S. Capitol? Congressman Joe Kennedy III announced last week his office is participating in the annual Congressional Art Competition, a high school visual arts contest. Now through April 19, 2013, high school students in the Fourth Congressional District can submit paintings, drawings, collages, computer-generated art, prints, mixed media and photography pieces to Kennedy's office on Crafts Street in Newton. An independent arts panel that includes several artists and art professionals from across the Fourth District will select a finalist for each media category. Steven Spielberg's film "Lincoln" led The Oscar hopefuls with 17 nominations, but Cambridge's own Ben Affleck was left off the list of hopeful for best director today when the list of nominees was announced. The Huffington Post reports that the media was abuzz when neither Affleck, Tom Hooper ("Les Miserables") nor Katherine Bigelow ("Zero Dark Thirty") made the list for Best Director. The trio's films did make the list of movies up for Best Picture, along with a host of others, including Quentin Tarantino's "Django Unchained" and Ang Lee's "Life of Pi." Before Frodo and The Lord of the Rings trilogy, there was another epic tale from J. R. R. Tolkien's Middle Earth. "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey", the first in the three-part series, opens Dec. 14 and it's not too soon to figure out where you'll watch. A local bakery and a local couple placed first in the pie contest in the Coolidge Arcade Building.
The Coolidge Corner Arcade building became a culinary battleground over the weekend, and when the dust settled, there were two victors. The Third Annual Coolidge Corner Pie Contest, hosted by MJ Ready International Bistro on Saturday, Oct. 20 had the biggest field of competitors--and the largest tales of pies--of any year of the three-year tradition. Competitors this year fell into two categories, restaurants and food service establishments and individuals: First place winners were Clear Flour's cherry peach pie and Hugenberger's four berry pie. Coming in second was Grossman's Apple Pie and a pumpkin pie from The Fireplace. Proceeds from the contest went to Coolidge Corner Community Chorus, and donations raised $843. Flip through the …

A local bistro is serving up slices of a three-year tradition this afternoon. The Third Annual Coolidge Corner Pie Contest will be at MJ Ready International Bistro on Saturday, Oct. 20 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Coolidge Corner Arcade building. Owner Jim Brown told Patch, in an email, that this year's field of competitors is the largest in the three years of the contest. Last year, the competition came down to four entries between two categories. This year's contest has nine, five restaurants or food service businesses and four individuals: At last year's contest, visitors sampled the various pies and voted for their favorites.
