Woodland Road Trees "Saved"

Following a hearing yesterday, the Brookline Tree Warden is chooses not to remove a number of trees growing up into NSTAR power lines.

NSTAR had requested that the town remove around 20 different trees in the Woodland and Laurel Road areas, as they had grown up into power lines.

The hearing demonstrated a strong desire by residents to keep the trees where they are. Selectmen chair Betsy DeWitt explained that Town Arborist Tom Brady's policy is to save any tree planned for removal when a citizen sends them a written objection.

More objections came in than the number of trees slated for removal.

DeWitt added, "The trees have been saved."

After the hearing, Senior Arborist for NStar Christopher Fallon told the Boston Globe that the trees were a potential fire hazard.

Fallon adds, “We want to be sure you understand there is a safety hazard and a potential interruption to electrical reliability.”
