Town of Brookline to Dennis Lehane: Take Tessa Signs Down or Face Fine

The Town of Brookline has issued a request that the Tessa flyers be taken down.

Dennis Lehane’s Finding Tessa page put out a statement:

"The Town of Brookline has issued a statement that we will need to have all flyers down by Monday, or be fined. We will leave the flyers up through the weekend, to get as many eyes looking for her as possible. We'll keep them up on community boards, and in businesses that have been generous enough to let us put a sign in their window.

We are asking that if you pick up posters or have posters or flyers, please do not post them in Brookline. If you can distribute them otherwise, please do! We will be trying to hand them to people at T stops and any other ideas people have. If people have connections with UPS or Fed Ex drivers or mail carriers, please let us know and we'll get you the small flyers that can easily be carried around or handed out.

The Town of Brookline may want us to give up, but we are not giving up until Tessa is found."

Tessa went missing on Christmas Eve. Since then, the Facebook group formed to try and find the pup. Lehane has also issued an original reward; he’ll name a character in his next book after the person who finds the dog. Tessa, a black and tan beagle, is very friendly, micro-chipped, but was not wearing her ID tags at the time, according to reports. So far, there have been a few sightings, but they have turned out to be false alarms.

There have been several meet-up events in which volunteers have handed out and put up flyers. Patch will have information on any future canvassing efforts. There is also an advice page for Mr. Lehane on what tips worked or didn’t work from readers.

Oh, Brookline, you love to rain on a parade, don't you? Don't ever change.

Unbelievable! Their arrogance is unmet by other communities trying to BE a community of people helping one another. Why don't the town officials concentrate on parking meters and the mess they made with their ideas.Idiots!

We are fortunate to be loosing one of our "Selectman Carpetbaggers" to the state, now if Obamas palls can find something for our other idiots to do!?
As a native, Born in Brookline, baptized and married at St. Aidans this kind of poor stewardship had me wanting to relocate to the city of Newton for over 45 years! If it wasn't for my wife . . . this letter would be from Newton instead of the Peoples Republic of Brookline! Where is the shame to have proposed this Scrooge like proposal to my neighbors!? Decency and common sense is missing from this "TOWN!" "IDIOTS" is an upgrade to my way of thinking!

I agree with the the others--this makes Brookline seem really stingy--what's the harm in leaving the flyers up a little longer?

My first post disappeared, but since I'm finding this frustrating, here's more.

Lehane gave a reading/talk at the Booksmith/Coolidge Corner Theatre the day his last book came out. (Supporting our independent bookstore.) I agree with the others. Brookline is being stingy here. On my street I see signs up all the time--Parking Space Needed, Yard Sale--that linger for weeks!

I wonder about the by-law or authority that served as the basis for the letter to Mr. Lehane, and how the fine for non-compliance would be calculated. And, I wonder if Mr. Lehane (or anyone else wishing to act in the same manner as, or on behalf of Mr. Lehane) was or should have been aware of those requirements. I would like to believe that it is not the 'Town of Brookline' sending this letter, but rather a few individuals with sufficient authority to cause the creation of this letter. This letter seems to be selective enforcement of that authority.

Ummmmmm, if the few sightings turned out to be false alarms, they weren't sightings, they were reported sightings.......
