Updated: Tornado Warning Issued by National Weather Service

Heavy thunderstorms are hitting Brookline and other parts of New England. Tell us how you're coping.

The National Weather Service has upgraded the tornado watch to a tornado warning. Reports are coming in from @AlertNewEngland on Twitter of a tornado in Sturbridge, MA, and from Springfield, MA via @TexasStormChasers, among others.

The National Weather Service office in Taunton issued a tornado watch at 2:18 p.m. Wednesday, June 1, which remains in effect until 8 p.m.

"Strong to severe thunderstorms were approaching southern New England this afternoon and should arrive between 3  and 5 p.m.," the statement from the National Weather Service said.

They are expected to hit Eastern Massachusetts between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. according to the statement.

The main threat from the thunderstorms are large hail, strong winds, with the possibility of tornadoes. By comparison, a "Tornado Warning" would mean one is developing.
