Shake Shack to Open in Chestnut Hill Shopping Center
The New York City-based burger joint will open in the space formerly occupied by Rugged Bear.
Following news earlier this year that the Chestnut Hill Shopping Center will soon be adding a new movie theatre and upscale fitness center, another big name has announced its plans to move into the Route 9 retail destination.
Shake Shack, a New York City-based burger and custard restaurant, plans to move into the 3,000-square-foot space formerly occupied by Rugged Bear, the Boston Globe reported today.

According to the chain's website, Shake Shack has a dozen restaurants on the East Coast and one location in Dubai. The Chestnut Hill spot will be the first in Massachusetts.
The Chestnut Hill Shopping Center has undergone some serious changes in the last couple of months with the demolition of the former Macy's building. WS Development, the firm that owns the property, also plans to tear down other sections of the existing shopping center to make way for more retail and office space.

SHAKE SHACK TO OPEN FIRST BOSTON LOCATION! COMING TO CHESTNUT HILL, MASSACHUSETTS, MID-2013
Beloved Burger, Hot Dog and Frozen Custard Stand is Boston Bound
NEW YORK, NY – May 8, 2012 – Shake Shack is bringing its burger stand to Beantown! Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group (USHG) plans to open Shake Shack in Chestnut Hill, MA, in 2013. One of NYC’s most beloved gathering places, Shake Shack is a modern day "roadside" burger stand known for its delicious burgers, hot dogs, frozen custard, beer, wine and more.
Shake Shack’s first-ever Boston location will sit along bustling U.S. Route 9 at 33 Boylston Street, Chestnut Hill. The new location will be situated among one of the region’s premier shopping destinations, which is currently being revitalized with a new village-like streetscape complete with tree-shaded pedestrian walkways and outdoor dining.
“With its proximity to Boston College, Chestnut Hill is a thriving community to bring Shake Shack,” said Randy Garutti, Shake Shack CEO. “We’re thrilled to make Boston our new home, and we look forward to bringing Shake Shack to other compelling sites in great neighborhoods in the Boston area.”
The newest addition to the Shack family will build upon the success of siblings across the East Coast (NYC, Miami, Washington, DC and Westport, CT) and Middle East (Dubai, UAE and Kuwait City, Kuwait).
