[Update: Boston.com reports that Stanley Levitt has been sentenced to 10 years probation on four counts of indecent assault-and-battery on three children between 1975 and '76.

The Globe also reports that Levitt may have seen a maximum sentence of up to 40 years in prison on these charges, and that Suffolk Superior Court Judge Geraldine Hines refused the presecution's request for a two-and-a-half year jail sentence. 1:49 p.m.]

Stanley Levitt, a former Brookline religious teacher who taught at the Maimonides school in the 1970s, admitted to all charges of sexual abuse against him yesterday. 

According to the Suffolk County District Attorney's press release, Levitt, 65, who was living in Philadelphia, pled guilty to four counts of indecent assault-and-battery as his trial was set to begin, and faces sentencing today. 

“This is a victory not just for the victims in this case, but for every person who suffered abuse at the hands of a trusted adult,” DA Daniel Conley said in the press release. “The defendant’s full admission of guilt is proof that the men he abused as children were telling the truth when they finally shared their terrible secret.”

Three victims came forward in 2009, alleging that Levitt assaulted them while he was teaching at the Maimonides school in the '70s. According to the DA, Levitt faced charges of assaulted two sixth-grade boys in 1975: one while in hospital recovering from a hand injury, and the other twice during a weekend visit to his Chiswick Road home. The third came forward after media coverage of the case, and alleged that Levitt assaulted him during a sleepover at Levitt's home. 

Last year, the former rabbi was reportedly backed out of a plea deal deal in December 2011, and plead not guilty to the charges. 

While the statute of limitations on this type of case is 27 years, the metaphorical clock stopped when he left the Commonwealth in the 1980s to go to Philadelphia, which in part allowed prosecutors to bring the case to court almost 30 years later. Prior to 2006, the statute of limitations was 15 years.
