Patch Picks: Brookline's Top Spots to Read
This week, Patch picks the best places in town to get some reading done.
There is nothing quite like a good book, except for a good book in the perfect spot to read. This week, Patch picks some favorite reading spots. Let us know if you have any favorite places to get some chapters read.
Coolidge Corner Library
Why? What better a place to get some reading done than in the quiet halls of your local library. If you've left your book at home, they might have it. If you don't have one yet, a librarian will be happy to help you find one. All of the Brookline libraries are fantastic spots to get some reading done, but the Coolidge Corner Branch--unlike the Putterham and Main libraries--will be open on Sunday, July 31. If this weekend goes well, we could see Sunday openings throughout the summer.
Paris Creperie
Why? Right across the street from the Brookline Booksmith (and its excellent Used Book Cellar), the Paris Creperie's comfortable all-around seating and cozy cafe feel almost always has people sitting, reading a book, and enjoying a smoothie inside. The cafe is small enough to give the feeling of a communal spot, but large enough that other conversations don't interfere with your quiet reading space.
Corey Hill Outlook
Why? On a warm, sunny day, stretching out under a tree with a book is a beautiful way to spend the afternoon. Leave your cell phone in a bag, take off your watch, and let yourself get away from the bustle of the city, without really leaving the town. However, be warned that it's more than possible to fall asleep in such a setting.
A Book Club
Why? You may not get a lot of reading done while attending a book club, but it's a great next step: you can sit and talk about the book you were just sitting and reading. Join one of the book clubs in town, like the Booksmith Book Club, Teen Book Club, St. Mary's Book Club, or Book club at EPOCH, or even start your own.
Reading Chair at Home
Why? You may not have to go much further than your living room to find the best reading spot. At the end of a long day, sitting down in your favorite chair with a book and a drink can help you unwind. Don't already have that reading chair? You can head to Boston Interiors to get a new one.
