Local Moms' "Fresh Fish to You" Brings Seafood to Your Brookline's Door

A Jamaica Plain mom and a West Roxbury mom created Fresh Fish to You after struggling to put healthy meals on the table every night for their families.

Two very busy local moms want to bring Fresh Fish to You, directly to your door, when you don't have the time to fly out to the store for a filet of flounder.

Launched in March, Jamaica Plain's Anamaria Barron and West Roxbury's Susan Gaffney, Fresh Fish to You is a fresh seafood delivery company, which delivers to Brookline.

"Fresh Fish to You is a great option for families because fish is healthy, quick and easy to prepare, and now we deliver it fresh to your door,"  said Gaffney.

They offer a variety of fresh fish packed with ice in insulated boxes. The fish can be cooked during the coming days, or frozen. One way to know their product is fresh is because offerings vary weekly including cod, haddock, salmon, flounder, swordfish, tuna and scallops.

Similar to many fish which are constantly moving, so are Gaffney and Barron's lives, thus their new venture.

"The reason we got into this business (is) we were struggling with feeding our
busy families healthy meals and trying to incorporate more fish into our
diets," said Gaffney. "We began sourcing the fish direct for our own families and it was great. So we decided it could work for other families. The reception so
far has been terrific."

When asked for a fish dish recipe, Gaffney shared one of her favorite recipes from a customer, "The recipe is simple, just spread both sides of swordfish with
mayo, season with salt and pepper and put directly on grill. A favorite
that converted my husband to a salmon lover is to marinate salmon for one
hour in olive oil, brown sugar and soy sauce and grill or broil."

Barron and Gaffney pointed out the strong and consistent evidence for benefits of eating fish from the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, the American Heart Association, and other organizations that suggest everyone eat fish twice a week.

“Everyone is struggling with putting healthy meals on the table quickly and Susan and I were no different. We wanted to incorporate more fish into our families’ meals, but were unsure of where to buy it, concerned how fresh it was and how quickly would  we need to serve it?” said Barron. As a result, the women reached out to Barron’s brother-in-law at Sea Jem Imports, a Boston fish distributor.

“So far the reception for the fish has been great. One of our best customers says that her three boys now look forward to ‘fish night’ each week,” said Barron.

Other options for Brookline residents to get fresh fish include Wulf's Fish Market, and the Brookline Farmers Market which begins June 14.
