Annual community event to celebrate, encourage bicycling will go up and down Beacon Street on Sunday, May 20, potentially causing some delays.

The following was submitted by the Brookline Bicycle Advisory Committee via John Dempsey:

Hundreds of bicyclists will parade up and down Beacon Street in Brookline on Sunday, May 20, and may impact your travel plans between 12:30 and 1:15 p.m.

This is the Fifth Annual Brookline Bicycle Parade sponsored by the Brookline Police, Department of Public Works and Parks and Open Space Division, Brookline Bank, Chobee Hoy Associates and Brookline.com.

The route takes cyclists from Amory Park in Brookline out Beacon Street to Cleveland Circle where they turn and ride inbound to Audubon Circle (near the Elephant Walk) where they turn again and go back to Amory Park. The Brookline Police lead the parade and do "rolling road closures" as the Parade passes through intersections. Drivers crossing Beacon Street might be delayed for 5-10 minutes as the Parade passes through each intersection. Drivers following the Parade outbound or inbound will be slowed to 8-10 mph - the speed of the parade.

Parking will be restricted on the outbound stretch of Beacon Street from Carlton Street to Powell Street, the length of Amory Street and a short section of Carlton Street from Beacon to Churchill.

Street Closings and Delays:

  • Beacon Street outbound traffic will be delayed between Amory Street and Cleveland Circle from 12:30 to 12:55 p.m. Parking on Beacon Street between Carlton Street and Powell Street will be restricted.
  • Expect traffic delays on Beacon Street inbound from Cleveland Circle to Audubon Circle from 12:45 - 1:15 p.m.
