Government Center Closing: What's Your Workaround?
It's one of the business stations in the system and it's closing for two years staring in 2013. Will the change affect your commute?

Make no mistake, the plan to close Government Center Station for two years will affect your commute. The station, one of the busiest in the system, connects the Green and Blue lines, making it a primary route to Logan Airport. It's also the closest T stop to city hall and the Kennedy federal building.
The closure comes as the T begins a $90 million renovation of the station, bringing more natural light and better equipment to the aging, dark station.
The MBTA has offered some alternatives for riders to try, but we want to hear from you: Will this major closure affect your commute? Plan on biking or driving instead? Or will you take it in stride and just get off one stop earlier or later on the line? Let us know in the comments section below.

I used to take the green line regularly to Back Bay. Now I avoid it at all costs. Not only does the line's safety record fail on all counts, it's slow and stuffy. And do not dare try to communicate with the operator (this goes for most routes), lest you become the object of their wrath.
I would rather the MBTA turn their attention to making the entire green line run more safely and efficiently from Lechmere to all of the end points.

For 10 years I rode my bicycle to Government Center . . . 25 minutes from Naples Rd. and Harvard St. via Comm. Ave., East on the BU sidewalk, behind BU, ramp to Charles River peddle to MGH on bicycle path to Staniford St., on return sometimes the wind off Charles was so stiff had to use Marlborough St to Kenmore then up Comm. Ave. Every day with few exceptions forced to take the "T" after ride to Comm. Ave to discover roads too slippery. Screw the "T" rather eat a pillow filled with feathers!

Hummmmmm, 90 million to renovate a station (Scolly Sq. Station) redone in 1962!
Talk about the proverbial money pit!

Why are they redoing stations when there has been a huge cutback in service and a budget crisis? On top of that the Orange Line trains need to be replaced so badly they might be nearly inoperable in 2 years! Bad decision MBTA!

I want to know the percentage of the MBTA leadership who uses the T or commuter rail on a regular basis. Perhaps they just don't realize how bad it really is.

At least 80% of the funding is coming from the Feds. And from what I understand, the 2 year closing is saving $13 million more than f they left the station open -- not to mention it would take three times as long!

Hmmmmmmmmmm!! The MBTA is broke but somehow can get 90 mil to redo ONE STATION. I thought the Federal Government was broke???????? Just amazing.....another creepy deal.
