Get Out: Father's Day Weekend – Walking, Cooking and Riding
Do something nice for dad on Father's Day, like cook or take him to the ballpark. You can also take a walk or ride for charity.
When/Where: 9 a.m. Saturday, outside of 552 Washington St
Why: Take a mile-long hike around Aspinwall Hill, with several local groups, as they show you the local flavors of some of the edible plants in the area. The event is sponsored by Brookline GreenSpace Alliance, Aspinwall Hill Neighborhood Association and Bountiful Brookline.
When/Where: 180 Wells Ave on Saturday, starting at 9 a.m.
Why: The annual Pan-Mass Children's Ride will run this weekend to raise some money for the Jimmy Fund. The annual ride for kids aged 3 to 16 runs in a Newton neighborhood, and draws kids from Newton, Needham and Brookline. If some of the older kids (9 and up) are so inclined, they can also try a road race from Newton to Dover.
When/Where: 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Anna's Taqueria.
Why: Take a 13-mile walk for charity, and check out some of the Anna's locations you may not regularly stop into. Walkers (walkquers?) get a bib and a punch card, and each stop they go to is worth $5 to the Home for Little Wanderers. Get to the 6th store, get a free burrito. Check the event page for more information.
When/Where: 2 p.m. on Saturday, at West Elm in Fenway (on Brookline Avenue)
Why: Check out some green cookware for when you're making dad a great meal on Sunday. Sample some dishes made in the carbon-reducing pans, which are naturally non-stick. The demo runs until 4 p.m.
When/Where: 11 a.m. on Sunday. Fenway Park, Gate C.
Why: Give your Red Sox Fan dad something fairly unforgettable: a chance to walk in the footsteps of his favorite Sox players. Bank of America presents this chance to walk around the Fenway tracks and sit in the dugouts. The concessions stands will be open, and Wally the Green Monster will be painting faces.
