Why Go: Brookline’s own Dance Friday hosts a weekend of dance workshops, lessons and activities, including several family-friendly events. Healthy snacks provided and babysitters available for hire.

2. Kitsch in Sync March Spectacular
Where/When: Puppet Showplace Theatre, Friday, 8 p.m.
Why Go: Brookline’s only semi-professional improve troupe will perform their monthly spectacular.
Pricing: $10 adults / $8 students
3. Swan Day Readings
Where/When: Boston Playwright Theatre, 949 Commonwealth Ave., Saturday, 2 - 6 p.m.
Why Go: This Commonwealth Avenue Theatre will host an afternoon of play readings by some of the regions best female playwrights as part of Swan Day, or Support Women Artists Now Day, an international holiday aimed at celebrating and encouraging women artists.
Pricing: $5 suggested donation.
4. Reading from "Falling in Love with Sophia"
Where/When: Greek Orthodox Cathedral of New England, Saturday, 7:30 p.m.
Why Go: Greek American actor and best-selling author Robert Krantz will read from his latest novel about young love. Krantz, who is also known by Greek name of Haralambos Karountzos, is perhaps most famous for his film, “So You Wanna Dance.”
Pricing: $15 (includes soft drinks, coffee, light appetizers and desserts)
5. Swingtime: Diamonds and Rust
Where/When: Brookline Academy of Dance
Why Go: This monthly program offers dancing and lessons for the LBGT community and friends in an alcohol-free environment. The theme this month is “Diamonds and Rust!” Lessons in waltz and swing will be offered from 8 to 9 p.m., followed by dancing to live music by The Mood Swings Orchestra. No experience or dance partner required!
Pricing: $15.
