Benefit basketball, bread-baking birds, burlesque, and blues--here's a selection of highly alliterative happenings this weekend in Brookline

 

Benefit Basketball Tournament for Brookline Victims of the Jan. 16 Fire

When/WhereBrookline High School, 6 p.m., tonight.
What: After the Martin Luther King Jr. Day fire, the Town put together a fund to help raise money for those affected. Some Brookline firefighters, high schoolers, police officers, and high school teachers are putting their money where their game is. Support those affected, and watch the town come together for a game. 
Pricing: $10, $5 for students, kids under 10 free.

The Little Bread Hen by Barefoot Puppets

When/WherePuppet Showplace Theatre, 1 and 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday
Why: In this Russian folk tale re-imagined, we learn what the other farm animals were doing that occupied their time instead of helping the Red Hen bake her bread. Taking the "Little Red Hen" story as an inspiration, this tasty re-telling takes place in a European bakery, we learn whether the others were lazy, or if something bigger was going on?
Pricing: $10 for tickets 

Special Uptown Swing Tropical Dance Party

When/Where: Brookline Tai Chi, Saturday night from 8:15 p.m. to midnight.
Why: Blues outfit The Love Dogs are playing in Brookline this weekend. They'll be bringing their funky, fresh and '50s style of music to the Uptown Swing Dance, meeting at Brookline Tai Chi. Hawaiian shirts and festive threads are encouraged, and a clean pair of shoes is requested (keeps the floors clean).
Pricing: $15

The Betsi Feathers Valentine Special

When/Where: 11:45 p.m., Saturday, Coolidge Corner Theatre
Why: After taking the kids to a puppet show, leave them at home and save a date for the Betsi Feathers burlesque troupe, performing a sensual, love-themed show in honor of Valentine's Day. If you want to treat your special someone to a slightly-belated unique experience, look no further.
Pricing: Tickets are $14

What's Your "WOW?"

When/Where: All weekend, on Facebook.
Why: Take a break and think about a time when someone's service made you go "wow." College Hunks Hauling Junk invites you to share a story of a service provider who went above and beyond, and enter yourself into a drawing for a $100 gift card for their services.
