Get Out! Active Celebrations and Prom Preparations

If you're not interested in biking, dancing or bird-watching, how about a toy store's anniversary or jewelry-making?

 

Henry Bear's Park 35TH Anniversary Celebration

When/WhereHenry Bear's Park, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.
Why: The toy shop, Henry Bear's Park, is celebrating its 35th anniversary today. So, spend the day with them for raffles, activities and a special musical guest, Stacey Peasley.
Pricing: Free.

DIY Prom Jewelry Class

When/WhereAbeille, Saturday, 3 to 5 p.m.
Why: Sometimes finding the perfect accessories to go with your prom outfit is a challenge. So, why try to find something when you could just make it? Abeille is hosting their first ever do-it-yourself jewelry class to help you get ready for prom.
Pricing: Free, but register ahead of time.

Swingtime: Salsalicious

When/WhereBrookline Academy of Dance, 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday.
Why: An alcohol and substance-free dance for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transexual folks and their friends. There will be salsa dancing lessons running from 8 to 9 p.m., and then dancing from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. in a friendly environment, where you need neither a dancing partner nor experience. 
Pricing: $10 per person.

Bird Watching Walk at Frederick Law Olmsted National Historic Site in Brookline

When/Where: Frederick Law Olmsted Historical Site, 99 Warren Street, Sunday 7 a.m.
Why: Beginner and novice birders can get started with a 90-minute guided tour. Rain or shine, folks will be spotting some feathered friends and exploring the site. The event's sponsored by the National Park Service, in collaboration with the Brookline Bird Club and the Brookline and GreenSpace Alliance.
Pricing: Free.

Brookline Bikes Beacon & Community Celebration of our Parks

When/WhereAmory Playground, 11:30 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. on Sunday.
Why:  The full schedule starts after the 11:30 registration period. The ride starts promptly at 12:30 p.m. After the 5-mile parade the bikers return to the community celebration of Brookline's parks. Free music and refreshments and everyone is invited! See the event page for more information.
Pricing:  Free, but show up at 11:30 a.m. to register for the parade.
