Baxter (Jack Lemmon) is a nobody at an insurance firm trapped between his four managers (who are borrowing his apartment for extra-marital affairs), his neighbors (who think he's a "good time Charlie"), and the girl of his dreams (the elevator girl, who's having an affair with one of the managers).
