BU Professor on Probation after Domestic Abuse Charge

Pedro Lasarte, a Spanish professor at BU, was arrested last week at his home in Arlington for allegedly "bumping" a female victim with brass knuckles.

The Boston University professor arrested last week on a domestic abuse charge has been placed on 18 months of probation, according to the Boston Globe.

On Feb. 10, Lasarte was arrested in his Arlington after he allegedly scratched his girlfriend’s arm with a key and "bumped" her in the ribs with brass knuckles.

He allegedly told the woman, “I know where to hit you with these where there won’t be a mark,” according to police.

Lasarte was charged with two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and one count of carrying a dangerous weapon. Those charges were continued without a finding.

Lasarte's attorney, Ryan Caselden, said in court that Lasarte had "learned from his mistakes," according to the Gobe report.

The case will be dismissed provided Lasarte is not charged again during his year-and-a-half probation.
