Brookline Police Log: February 3 – 5

The following information was supplied by Brookline Police Dept. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

 

The following incident report is based on Brookline Police Department dispatch logs for Feb. 3 through 5. Look for weekday incident reports twice a week, and arrest logs each Tuesday on Brookline Patch. Suspects are innocent until proven guilty.

Breaking and Entering, Theft and Larceny

  • Larceny reported at 1199 Beacon Street, at about 3:30 p.m. Friday. 
  • Friday, at about 4:30 p.m., 32 Bartlett Crescent reported a breaking-and-entering incident at the home. Police officers took a report.
  • Employees at Trader Joe's reported that a woman came into the store and was placing items from her cart into bags she brought with her. When she went to the help desk to ask about store hours and what items they carried, employees noticed she seemed nervous, and stuttered a little as she spoke. One employee followed her and asked to see a receipt, which she could not provide, nor could she name the teller who checked her out. Police were contacted, and she was arrested and charged with larceny of items over $250, at about 7 p.m. Monday.
  • A bedroom window was forced open, and the screen pushed in, at 76 St. Paul Street. A resident reported, at 8:30 p.m., that several items had been taken from the bedrooms. 
  • Police took a report of an attempted breaking-and-entering at 60 Babcock Street, Saturday evening around 6:15 p.m.
  • A Freeman Street woman reported that two envelopes delivered in her mailbox appeared to be opened, and that gifts had been removed from the envelopes. Police took a report at 241 Freeman Street at about 11 a.m. on Sunday.

Traffic

  • An officer driving at about 1:45 a.m. saw a vehicle traveling over 60 mph on Boylston Street between Catlin Road and Fisher Avenue. The officer pulled this vehicle over and reports that he immediately smelled a strong odor of alcohol coming out of the car. The officer determined he was driving under the influence of alcohol and placed him under arrest, charging him with operating under the influence and speeding.
  • An officer saw a vehicle traveling down Lee Street at about 2 a.m., reportedly going about 45 mph in the 35 mph zone. The officer pulled the vehicle over, and could smell alcohol on the driver. He was arrested and charged with operating under the influence of alcohol.
  • Three kids were seen fleeing the scene of a Wolcott Road crash, at about 11:15 p.m. on Saturday. One caller reported that the kids had tried to put cups in her front yard, but she caught them and sent them on their way. 

Other

  • Friday at 8:15 p.m., police and fire respond to a dumpster fire near Beacon Street on Webster Street. 
  • Police issued a bylaw citation to a loud party at 215 St. Paul Street, at about 1 a.m. on Sunday.
