Brookline Police: Drug Bust on Pearl Street

The following information was supplied by the Brookline Police Department. Charges listed do not indicate convictions.

Brookline Police Officers conducted a drug surveillance operation in the area of Pearl Street and Village Way on the evening of March 10. Officers had received information about drug activity in the area and were monitoring from an undisclosed location.

At 11:23 p.m., officers observed a yellow Mercury Sable pull up in front of a house on Pearl Street. Officers observed three people in the vehicle. The driver exited the car and went into 68 Village Way. The two passengers remained in the vehicle with the engine running. Officers reported that the driver exited the house in approximately two minutes and got back into the car.

Officers suspected that an illegal drug transaction had taken place and followed the vehicle as it headed down Pearl Street. Officers pulled the vehicle over when it reportedly failed to stop for a stop sign. When officers pulled the vehicle over, they saw that the occupants were reportedly moving about frantically, to either conceal or grab something.

Another officer spoke to the passenger, later identified as Cobi Deflurin, who was reportedly shaking, sweating and visibly nervous. When asked what the passengers were trying to conceal, Deflurin said, “nothing.”

The officer asked to search Deflurin’s purse and found a bowl and two bags of marijuana, which Defluirn told the officer about while agreeing to the search. The officer also found a notebook with various monetary values written down in a list. The officer suspected that the numbers were consistent with the street value of drugs.

Officers searched Deflurin and found a single bag of 22 blue colored pills with the letter “M” on one side and “30” on the other in her left bra cup. A few of the pills had “A215” on them. A search on Drugs.com revealed that the pills were Oxycodone. Officers placed Cobi Deflurin, 20, of 72 Schiller Road, Dedham, under arrest and charged her with Possession of a Class B substance with intent to distribute, Possession of a Class D substance and conspiracy to violate the Drug Law.

Officers spoke to the driver, later identified as Daniel Mulkern, and found five pills inside a piece of folded paper during a search. Officers also found two filmstrips oral packets of 8 mg Suboxone. While attempting to tell officers that he had a prescription, officers reported that Mulkern provided a different identification.

Officers arrested Daniel Mulkern, 30, of 69 Carroll Street, West Roxbury, and charged him with operating after a suspension, possession of a Class B substance and Possession of a Class C substance.

During the interviews with Mulkern and Cobi Deflurin, the backseat passenger, later identified as Jared Deflurin became agitated. Officers reported that he began shouting and cursing. Officers pulled him out of the vehicle and told to quiet down. When he wouldn’t, officers charged Jared Deflurin, 29, of 27 Schiller Road, Dedham with disorderly conduct and conspiracy to violate the Drug Law.

Officers found a bag of green leafy material believed to be marijuana during a search of the car. The car was towed by Perfection Towing in Watertown.
