Brookline Arrest Log: November 1 - 6

The following information was supplied by Brookline Police Dept. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

The following arrest report is based on reports for Nov. 1 through 6. Look for weekday incident reports each Saturday, weekend reports each Monday, and arrest logs each Tuesday on Brookline Patch. Suspects are innocent until proven guilty.

Tuesday, Nov. 1
  • Warrant arrest - Christian Manana, 27, of Roslindale was seen driving from Cypress Street onto Boylston Street westbound. The vehicle he was in sounded like it had an after-market muffler attachment which made it louder than the standard car and a brake light was out, so an officer ran his information, and determined he had an outstanding warrant. The officers pulled Manana over near Chestnut Hill Avenue's intersection with Channing Road. He was arrested and charged with defective equipment, making a loud or harsh noise, and on the outstanding warrant, at about 4:45 p.m.

Wednesday, Nov. 2
  • Warrant arrest - Jesse Rivera, 23, of St. Paul Street was the subject of a suspicious person call, reporting someone sleeping in a red Chevy Prizm. arrested on an outstanding warrant out of South Boston Court for driving after a suspension. He was arrested and charged on that warrant at about 7 a.m.
  • Possession of a class D substance with intent to distribute - Cambridge man, Tarik Preston-Holmes, aged 32. While stopped at a red light in an unmarked cruiser, an officer spotted someone in another vehicle with a "fair-sized" plastic bag of what appeared to be marijuana. The officer pulled this vehicle over, and smelled marijuana coming out of the vehicle window. The driver, Preston-Holmes identified himself as Troy Preston. The officer placed Preston-Holmes and the other passenger in the vehicle, 32-year-old Rahim Muhammed, under arrest and charged both with possession of a class D drug with intent to distribute. In addition, Preston-Holmes was charged with driving on a suspended license and providing a false name. Detectives also recovered a roughly 1.7 pound bag of marijuana, at about 11:45 a.m.
  • Shoplifting - 36-year-old Brighton resident, Maksim Yasilyov, was brought into protective custody after a reported shoplifting incident at Rubin's Deli. The man had run out of his bill for a huge catering order. The suspect was described as a white man in a green army jacket and khaki pants, running down Russell Street chased by an employee. When officers caught up with the man, he smelled of alcohol and reported that while waiting for his order--which he intended to pay for with a credit card--he became upset and decided he didn't want the order anymore. He seemed angry as police spoke with him, and then placed him under protective custody. Officers later determined that he had no credit card and no way of paying, and as he had ordered about $180 in meat products (which could not be re-sold) he was arrested and charged with shoplifting at about 2:30 p.m.
  • Warrant arrest - James Walker, 55, of Boston. Officers were informed by the Patrol Warrant Apprehension Unit that Walker was currently in Brookline and wanted on an active arrest warrant for an attempted breaking-and-entering. Officers located him at 99 Kent Street and placed him under arrest on that warrant at about 9:15 p.m.
  • Warrant arrest - 34-year-old Naomi O'Bannon, of Pearl Street. Officers received a tip from the Patrol Warrant Apprehension Unit that O'Bannon was in Brookline and had an outstanding warrant for driving on a suspended registration. Officers went to her Pearl Street residence and placed her under arrest on that warrant at about 9:30 p.m.
Friday, Nov. 4
  • Disorderly person - Brine Clauss, Boston man aged 37, was reportedly in a disturbance outside the Golden Temple restaurant on Beacon Street at about 3 a.m. The report indicated three Asian men and a white man, Clauss, were causing a scene. The three Asian men reported that Clauss, who appeared to be intoxicated, had approached them for a lighter and caused a scene when he was not given one. All three appeared to be sober and calm. Officers were attempting to turn Clauss over to his mother, when he became belligerent and was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct.
  • Assault-and-battery with a dangerous weapon - Gary Voronov, 56, of Newton Center, and Aleksander Murakhovskiy, 31, of Chestnut Hill were the subjects of a disturbance report at Vernissage restaurant on Beacon Street, around 10:30 p.m. A caller reported that someone had broken glass inside. An employee reported that the two men had attempted to enter and were asked by a doorman for ID and a $10 cover charge for the event inside. Both men refused to show ID and pay the cover, and attempted to force their way past the door men. They allegedly punched the two employees barring their entrance in the kidneys--one of the victims attempted to cover himself and was pushed against a doorframe, causing a glass pane to break. The victims also reported that after the assault, Voronov threw a $20 bill into one of the doorman's faces. A crowd of about 20 people had gathered outside to smoke and watched this incident.

When officers spoke to the two men, both reported being a friend of the owner, and not needing to pay the cover charge. Voronov was described as "condescending and arrogant" and seeemed to be intoxicated. He denied any incident except that the doorman did not know who he was. The owner said he does not know either man. Officers arrested and charged both men with assault and battery, and with disorderly conduct and malicious damage of property. Murakhovskiy struggled during the arrest and was also charged with resisting arrest.
Saturday, Nov. 5
  • Shoplifting - Shoshana Yeshaiau, 62, of Green Street. Officers responded to a shoplifting report at Trader Joe's, where a manager identified Yeshaiau as the subject of the call. A manager reported that she had been seen at the store, and they had suspected her of shoplifting in the past, but had not caught her in the act before. She was found with about $28 of unpaid merchandise in her shoulder bag, and a $7 item in her coat. She was arrested and charged with shoplifting at about 10 p.m.
Sunday, Nov. 6
  • Receiving stolen property over $250 - Philip Callistro Jr, 18, living in Dorchester and Christopher McMurren, 19, from Virginia Beach, VA, were arrested at Wellington Terrace and charged with receiving over $250 in stolen property at around 1:30 a.m. An officer saw three men riding bikes, one of which matched the description of a recently-stolen bike. While they spoke to the men, one officer brought the matching bike to the victim, who identified it as his. The two men were arrested and charged with receiving stolen property over $250.
  • Driving under the influence of alcohol -  David DeJesus, 36, of Somerville. At about 2 a.m., officers were pulled over with their emergency lights on when a grey Dodge Charger drove up, stopped near the car, waited a few moments, and then turned around the cruiser. Because of this odd behavior, an officer caught up with this vehicle, which was straddling lanes on the road, and nearly hit a construction site on Beacon Street. Officers pulled the car over, identified the driver as DeJesus, and determined that he was intoxicated. He was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and a marked lane violation.
  • Possession of a class D drug - 28-year-old Martin Cooper, of Egmont Street, was found after Boston University police issued a BOLO (be on the lookout) for a suspect wanted in the assault of a female student at about 5 a.m. Martin matched the description of the suspect and was walking away from the scene of the incident, and was stopped by police. He appeared evasive when questioned, and seemed more anxious as more officers arrived. After officers tried to search his backpack, Cooper lunged for it, then started to run away, pushing an officer. He was apprehended, but resisted arrest. Inside the bag, officers found $66 and a bag of what appeared to be marijuana, as well as drug paraphernalia. BU officers arrived with the victim, who did not want to make an identification. Cooper was arrested and charged with possession of a Class D drug with intent to distribute, resisting arrest, and assault-and-battery of a police officer.
  • Larceny of property over $250 - Paul Dinardo, 50, of Boston, and Hovhannes Grigoryan, 46, of Watertown, were found after a shoplifting call at the Beacon Street CVS. An employee told officers that the men had just left, and that they had experienced a recent increase in shoplifting. Police obtained surveillance footage of the incident, and tracked down a license plate for a vehicle involved. They located the car and Dinardo, and contacted Grigoryan through a cell phone number, who came into the station for an interview. Both men were arrested and charged with larceny, at about noon.
