The following arrest report is based on Brookline Police Department reports for July 16 through 22. Look for weekday incident reports each Saturday, weekend reports each Monday, and arrest logs each Tuesday on Brookline Patch. Suspects are innocent until proven guilty.

Tuesday, July 17

• Disorderly person –John Norris, 56-year-old Davis Ave man and 59-year-old Ali Nikoo-Nejad of Roslindale. Two men were arrested after a fight broke out on Harvard Street in the bike lane, and were causing a scene. One of the guys said the other had been yelling and approaching threateningly, the other reported that he had pushed back in self-defense. Witnesses and video surveillance confirmed that the Norris swung something at Nikoo-Nejad. Norris, the one who swung at his would-be opponent, was arrested and charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, assault-and-battery and disorderly conduct. Nikoo-Nejad was charged with disorderly conduct and soliciting without a permit, around 6:45 p.m..
• Assault with a dangerous weapon – Egmont Street resident, Michael Cugini, 41. Police responded to a dispute call in Coolidge Corner, about 7:45 p.m., the caller was sat on the bench in front of CVS when police arrived. He reported that a man had come from behind with a broomstick and wrapped it around the victim's neck, pulling until it broke. A witness corroborated the story, and handed police a section of the broom. They located and arrested Cugini near his home, and charged him with assault with a dangerous weapon.

Thursday, July 19

• Graffiti law – 17-year-old Village Way resident, John Dinius. Police searched the home of a known graffiti tagger, and arrested him and charged him with graffiti law violations. Police believe he and another known tagger are responsible for 400 different graffiti marks around town. They arrested and charged Dinius with 24 counts of graffiti law violation. Police issued a search and arrest warrant for the other suspected tagger. 

Friday, July 20

• Protective custody – A 22-year-old East Boston man reportedly flagged down a cab to take a friend to Malden before dropping him at home at about 3:30 a.m. When the cab driver refused, they left the cab--leaving a phone behind. When police caught up to the man, he was arguing with another cab driver. They determined he was under the influence of alcohol to a degree placed him into protective custody. 
  
• Armed robbery – Daniel Danavian, 19, of Dorchester. Police were dispatched to Murphy Park for an armed robbery. Police received a description from the victims: a dark-skinned black male with short hair, tan or khaki shorts, and a red short-sleeved shirt. They said that at about 1:30 a.m., they were talking on a park bench and asked for the time. About 20 minutes later, the man returned and showed them a black semi-automatic weapon and said "give me your phone and you'll be fine." They did, and the suspect left the scene. Police found a man matching that description nearby, who appeared to be sweating and looked as though he had been lying in the grass. They frisked him and found a iPhone matching the one stolen, and K9 units found a black semi-auto weapon, which turned out to be a toy pellet gun. When asked, the witnesses confirmed he was the same person. Danavian was arrested and charged with two counts of armed robbery, and possession of marijuana within a school zone.

Saturday, July 21

• Operating under the influence of alcohol – Petrov Seleznov, 25, of Somerville. Boston EMS informed police of a man they said was slumped over the wheel near St. Paul and Freeman Streets at around 2 a.m. When police arrived, they found the driver's hand limp on the gear shift, still in drive. They attempted to wake him, and report a smell of alcohol. After determining that he was operating under the influence, police arrested Seleznov and charged him with driving under the influence. 
• Attempted breaking-and-entering at night – Dorchester man, 19-year-old Shaquille Manago. A caller reported three suspicious young men in the driveway of a Manchester Street home. Police arrived and separated the trio, and spoke to the caller. The reporting party said he was using the bathroom at about 2:30 a.m., and saw one man in a flannel shirt with a flashlight near his car, and two others in the driveway, looking around. He said a cruiser arrived within two minutes. Police interviewed the three men, and allege that one man was near the car, while the other two acted as look-outs. Police arrested and charged Manago with attempted breaking-and-entering, conspiracy, possession of burglarious tools, and contributing to the deliquency of a minor. The other two, minors, were charged with juvenile delinquency, attempted breaking-and-entering, possession of burglar tools, and conspiracy. One of the juveniles was also charged with providing a false name.
• Unarmed robbery – Newton man, Dmitry Sirota, and Joshua Rivers of Brighton, both 21. An officer driving south on St. Paul street saw two men reportedly beating on a third man. The officer called for backup and detained one of the two men, Sirota, requesting EMS for the victim. The victim claims he had been receiving text messages about "how he was treating his girlfriend" and wanted them to end. He told the texter, who he identified as Sirota, where he was. When he left the Holiday Inn, Sirota was waiting for him, and told him to empty his pockets. The two men took the victim's Oakley sunglasses, and when he confronted them to get them back, they attacked him again. When police searched Rivers, they found a substance that appeared to be heroin. Sirota was arrested and charged with unarmed robbery, assault with a dangerous weapon (shod foot), and assault-and-battery. Rivers was charged with possession of a class A and B drug, assault-and-battery and unarmed robbery. 

Sunday, July 22

• Possession of heroin – Michael Arruda, 33, of Roxbury. Police, fire and EMS were dispatched to TJ Maxx for an unconscious man in the bathroom. They say they found a man they identified as Arruda face down on the floor. Police found paraphernalia they believe consistent with heroin use, and transported him to the hospital. They also found two pill bottles, one with his name (which they did not know at the time) and one with a woman's name on it. He was arrested and charged with possesion of a class A and E drug, and on two outstanding warrants, around 8 p.m.
