Boston Fireworks Will Go On, Despite Rain

Boston's Independence Day Fireworks are set to go on, even in the rain.

The Brookline-Boston area may see some thunderstorms tonight, the National Weather Service tells us there's a 30 percent chance. There is also supposed to be a fireworks show on the Charles River.

The Boston Globe spoke with organizers yesterday, who told them a cancellation would be a "last-minute" decision.

“It will be a call made on the best information available. We will consult with our weather forecasters and a team of public safety officials before any decision is made,” Steve MacDonald, spokesman for Boston 4th Productions, told the Globe

In the event that the fireworks are canceled due to weather, the Fireworks Spectacular website says the show will be launched from the barges at 9:30 p.m. tomorrow night, July 5, instead. There is no rain date for the concert, if canceled.

The Oval (the area in front of the Hatch Shell) opened at 9 a.m. today with entertainment throughout the day and into the evening. Other performers include Michael ChiklisKeith Lockhart, conductor of the Boston Pops, and performances from the Broadway hit MAMMA MIA! as the city goes all out with cannons, military plane flyovers, performances by the National Honor Guard and more.

By the evening, organizers will be gearing up for the fireworks display at 10:30 p.m., as well as the 101st Field Artillery Regiment shooting cannons to honor our nation's birthday. The Navy Band Sea Chanters—the United States Navy’s official chorus— will also perform.
